Idli with an Awadhi & Chinese Twist

Unity in Diversity is a very special feature of our country, so I created a new dish with the humble Idli using the Awadhi style of cooking and ingredients from Awadhi and Chinese cuisines.
Tasty food knows no boundaries, but it must tickle your taste buds. This recipe is not only delicious but very healthy too.


For the Idli -

  • 1 and 1/2 cup idli rice
  • 1/2 cup urad dal
  • Salt - to taste

To marinate -

  • 2 tbsp ginger garlic paste
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 2 tbsp Wingreens Chilly Garlic Schezwan sauce
  • 3 tsp Wingreens Peri Peri Ketchup.
  • Salt - to taste

Garnishing -

  • Fresh coriander leaves
  • 1 capsicum.
  • 1 tomato
  • Cooking oil - for grilling on the tawa


  1. Soak rice and dal in water
  2. Drain water after an hour and grind them into a fine paste
  3. Add salt and keep in a tightly sealed pan/dish for fermentation
  4. When fermented, grease the idli mould and pour batter into it. Steam till done
  5. Take the idlis out from the mould and marinate them with the ingredients. Rub the marinade mix nicely on all the idlis.
  6. Heat a non-stick tawa and grill the marinated idli, along with some tomato and capsicum slices to serve with idli .
Serve hot with Wingreens Schezwan Chilly Garlic sauce and Peri Peri Ketchup!
